Jojo Sulston

Abuse & Trauma Counsellor

Personal

Jojo is a counsellor, an educator, a Christian, and a proud mama.  She comes from a background of complicated imperfect healthy and unhealthy relationships, including blended families and "bonus parenting".  She is fascinated by the "BRUTIFUL" world of love, marriage, and relationships.  HiRR Company was born from Jojo's life and work experiences developing a passion of abuse prevention through education and awareness, learning from her mistakes, her deep desire to make a difference by helping others and promoting wellness.  Her pet-peeve is the thought of people suffering in silence so she holds a safe space for people to just "BE" themselves.  Her vision is to break down barriers to provide equal access to affordable & effective support services for EVERYONE.  Gottman research tells us that less than 10% of relationships in trouble ever get any help...Jojo wants to change this stat.

Jojo loves camping and the outdoors and is a big sports fan (Blue Jays! But she will counsel a Yankee fan) and huge lover of animals, hence her other passion of Dachshund Breeding.  She believes there is always time for new directions and change, when you are willing to be honest, vulnerable, and accountable.  Relationships are hard, and love is notall you need; navigation together and continuous learning is the way forward to making relationships LAST!

Experience

Jojo has been specializing in abuse and trauma counselling for 16 years, helping people heal from hurts and teaching people how to learn from hurting others.  Jojo has been an advocate for safety in relationships for BOTH women and men, while recognizing intimate partner violence as a gender-based issue.  Jojo also has 5 years of experience in her early career providing outreach to at-risk youth, marginalized populations and homeless young people.  She is currently Coordinating the Ministry of Attorney General, Partner Abuse Response (PAR) Program locally through Haldimand Norfolk REACH, providing the 12 week psycho-educational court mandated offender program.  This has provided Jojo with a special interest and expertise in helping men deal with issues of anger and control.  After working with victims of domestic violence for a decade and 6 years now working with those who have demonstrated power/control issues, the logical next chapter in her journey was bringing both sides of the story together to reduce violence and abuse and promote SAFELOVE.
